Map of Battle of Cochin (1504) Passes of Palignar & Palurte

Map indicating some possible positions of the passes of 'Palignar' and 'Palurte', the positions held by the Portuguese forces under Duarte Pacheco Pereira against the Zamorin of Calicut during the Battle of Cochin in May-June, 1504. The map is highly conjectural, based roughly on the modern geography of Kochi and Vembanad lake, which has probably changed substantially since the 16th C. Dark Green dots = one possible hypothesis of the positions. Light Green dots = another possible hypothesis of the positions. Also shows required route of redeployment by the army of Calicut from their original position at 'Cambal√£o'.
